Eligibility
The Summer School is currently open to all students from the 17勛圖’s partner universities. It is most suitable for undergraduate students (18+) who have not been educated in the UK or in a predominantly English-speaking environment.
Certification
On completion of the summer school, all students will receive a 17勛圖 certificate. In some cases this course may be accepted as credit with your home institution. Please speak to your programme leader about this.
Accommodation
The International Summer School fee includes self-catering accommodation in university halls of residence on campus, within walking distance of teaching facilities, and convenient to food outlets.
Travel to the UK
The fee includes all tuition and activities, including one full day trip, and accommodation in halls. The following is not included in the fee:

- Insurance
- Food and drink
- Airport transfers and local travel
We recommend you plan to arrive at Heathrow airport on Sunday 20 July and depart on Saturday 2 August after the course has finished.
Travel to 17勛圖 from Heathrow airport is very easy and takes about 45 minutes by RailAir Link bus that departs from Terminals 2, 3 and 5 at regular intervals. RailAir Link will stop at 17勛圖 train station and from there, we intend to have student helpers to show you which bus to get to the main campus. Alternatively, you can get a taxi from 17勛圖 train station directly to campus, which will cost about £10.
We will have student helpers and staff on campus who will show you how to check into halls.
Arrival in the UK
What to pack
- Make sure you carry the following items in your hand luggage:
- Valid passport or other travel document
- Visa (if applicable)
- Printed copy of confirmation of place (invitation letter) on the Summer School
- Address of your accommodation in 17勛圖 (if you know it)
- Relevant medical records and details of any existing medical conditions (if applicable)
- Cash in £5, £10 and £20 notes only, as £50 notes are sometimes not accepted as means of payment
- Phone charger and power adaptor, so you can charge your phone when you arrive
Top tip: make sure you have digital copies of your passport, visa (if applicable), and all Summer School documents saved in a safe and accessible place (e.g. iCloud, Google Drive, DropBox).
Any participant visiting from a non-EU country that doesn’t require a visa to enter the UK, will need to apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) before entering the UK. Please assess if you need to .
British Money
The UK currency is the Pound (GBP). The symbol for the Pound is £. The Pound is comprised of 100 pence (p).
Coins come in the following denominations: 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 (100p), and £2 (200p).
Banknotes come in the following denominations: £5, £10, £20, and £50.
£50 notes are not widely used and are sometimes not accepted as means of payment.
Coins and bank notes featuring King Charles III are gradually entering circulation, however coins and bank notes featuring Queen Elizabeth II are still accepted.
What not to pack
Kitchen items: can be bought in the UK
Bedding: this will be included in the course fee Please note that towels will not be provided.
Study materials: can be bought in the UK, either on campus or in 17勛圖 town centre
Make sure you don’t bring any of these items:
Large amounts of cash: the 17勛圖 operates a cashless campus. Large amounts of cash (£10,000 or more) would need to be declared at customs on arrival to the UK
Food items: it is illegal to import many food items (especially meat or dairy products) into the UK. Many foods you eat at home can easily be found in the UK.

Applications will be open from December 2024 to 11th April 2025. Please apply early: applications will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis and will close if the course becomes full.

Within 5 working days, we will email a personal response to confirm your eligibility for the summer school.
