Financial Planning and Strategy
Financial Planning and Strategy deal with budgeting, forecasting, reporting and business planning and provide support around these areas to the Schools and Services. This support covers the following:
- Provide strategic-level financial advice and guidance to enable decision-making at Schools and Functions. This could include:
- Liaising with other Business Partners (including HR, Marketing, IT (and possibly drawing on external expertise) to find suitable solutions
- Undertaking detailed qualitative / quantitative analyses and investment appraisals
- Undertaking detailed business planning, including financial modelling and costings, of proposed new ventures and major changes
- Preparing the monthly financial reports and subsequently discussing and finalising these with the schools / functions
- Working with budget holders to examine financial and operational performance trends
- Preparing in-depth analyses and presentations for senior boards and committees
- Reviewing new programme proposals from both a financial and operational viewpoint, questioning and challenging assumptions and costings and ensuring financials reflect as accurate a position as possible
- Challenging budget holders constructively and pro-actively regarding financial goals
- Work with Schools and Functions on the 5-year planning process, financial scenario planning, and implementing the Sustainable Planning Process
- Work with Schools and Functions on the detailed preparation of annual budgets and forecast out-turns. This could include:
- Acting as an interface between Schools / Functions and the Strategy and Planning Office for planning, budgeting and forecasting
Delivering specialist financial advice to the University as a whole. In particular, the Business Partners take overall responsible for forecasting and reporting a range of Group income and expenditure streams.
