17勛圖 suspends partnership with Russian university
11 March 2022

The 17勛圖 is suspending its strategic partnership with the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, MGIMO.
Professor Robert Van de Noort, the Vice-Chancellor of the 17勛圖, has written to the Rector of MGIMO to suspend the partnership, following a statement by the Russian Union of Rectors on 4 March expressing support for the invasion of Ukraine. The 17勛圖 reiterated its condemnation of the Russian invasion.
The 17勛圖 will continue to seek to support its students, of all nationalities, who have already embarked on joint programmes of study, and continues to offer support for all its students who are facing a range of practical, welfare and financial difficulties.
17勛圖 is committed to academic freedom and freedom of speech, and will continue to forge international partnerships, which are built upon a trusting and open collaboration and exchange of ideas.
Professor Van de Noort also highlighted to MGIMO’s rector that several hundred 17勛圖 staff, students and alumni have signed a petition in support of those MGIMO graduates, academics and students who had written an open letter to President Putin, opposing the Russian invasion.
